The Prison Directorate has introduced a cashless system in the country’s prisons to simplify the process of depositing money for inmates and accessing canteen facilities. For this purpose, an agreement has been signed with the Sonali Payment Gateway. Through this initiative, the process of depositing money into prisoners’ cash accounts (PC – Prisoners Cash Account) will become digital and easier.

The relevant agreement was signed with the Prison Directorate on 28 April, Tuesday.

The Prison Directorate stated that under the new system, relatives of inmates will now be able to deposit money online with ease. This will reduce the hassle of physically visiting prisons to deposit funds and will save both time and cost.

In addition, transparency in accessing canteen facilities is expected to increase, and the reduction of cash transactions will minimize the scope for irregularities, according to concerned officials.

The digital service will be expanded in phases to further modernize and make the prison management system more timely and efficient.
