SYLHET, August 9, Sunday: Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has constituted a six-member high-level investigation committee to identify faculty members allegedly involved in anti-state covert activities and the suppression of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The announcement came via an official order issued on Sunday afternoon (August 9), signed by SUST Registrar Syed Salimm Mohammad Abdul Kadir.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Sajedul Karim has been named the convener of the committee, with Registrar Syed Salimm Mohammad Abdul Kadir serving as member secretary. The other members are Treasurer Professor Ismail Hossain, Head of the Mathematics Department Professor Ashraf Uddin, Professor Abul Fazal Mohammad Zakaria from the Anthropology Department, and Legal Advisor Mohammad Taj Uddin. The panel has been instructed to submit its findings swiftly.
According to the official circular, the university authority took action following recent investigative media reports detailing university teachers' involvement in secret anti-state activities across the country.
The committee's terms of reference mandate the identification of faculty members engaging in subversive operations and the recommendation of appropriate administrative and legal actions against them. Furthermore, the panel will investigate whether any SUST faculty members actively suppressed student protests or issued threats to students during the July mass uprising under the previous regime.
This move follows media exposures detailing an encrypted Telegram network involving over 400 university teachers allegedly orchestrating anti-state strategies. Similar investigative panels have already been formed at Dhaka University, Rajshahi University, Jagannath University, and Islamic University.
