9 August, Sunday: Following a grueling 40-hour delay at Fiumicino Airport in Rome, Italy, 247 stranded passengers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have finally returned home. Flight BG-306 landed safely at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today, Sunday (August 9) at 12:30 PM.
The development was confirmed by Bosra Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. She informed that the aircraft departed Rome on Saturday at 11:00 PM local time (3:00 AM Bangladesh time) before making its scheduled landing in Dhaka.
The flight originally departed Dhaka for Rome on Thursday at 5:18 PM. Upon arriving at Fiumicino Airport on Friday at 7:20 AM, engineers detected a mechanical flaw, prompting technical grounding. Because the passengers lacked European transit visas, local airport authorities initially denied permission for them to exit the terminal to stay at nearby hotels, forcing travelers to remain inside the airport facilities for nearly two days.
Following diplomatic coordination and media attention, local border authorities eventually permitted passengers to be moved to hotels overnight. Once the technical issues were resolved and mandatory safety inspections were cleared, the aircraft boarded its passengers and resumed its return leg to Bangladesh.
