ICT Department gets a new Director General within just one month

In a rapid administrative restructuring, the government has reshuffled the top executive post of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for the second time within a single month. Dr. Sadia Sharmin, Additional Secretary attached to the Planning Division (previously under orders of transfer to the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat), has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) of the ICT Department on deputation.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued an official notification to this effect on Thursday, August 6. Signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Noor-e-Alam by order of the President, the gazette states that the transfer order has been issued in public interest and takes immediate effect.

With this new appointment, Dr. Sadia Sharmin succeeds Joint Secretary Mahfuza Akhter, who was assigned as the DG of the department on July 2 from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Prior to Mahfuza Akhter, Joint Secretary Mohammad Saiful Hasan served in the position.

The ICT Department plays a pivotal role in implementing national e-governance initiatives, expanding digital services nationwide, and managing state technological infrastructure. Administrative observers anticipate that the incoming leadership will streamline ongoing digitalization projects and accelerate administrative efficiency across the division.
