Brawl Between Two Russian Workers at Rooppur Green City Leaves One Dead

3 August, Monday: A dispute between two Russian nationals in an alcohol-fueled fight resulted in one death and left another critically injured at Green City, the residential quarters for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Ishwardi, Pabna. The incident occurred on Monday morning (August 3) inside room 501 on the 5th floor of Building No. 6.

Police identified the deceased as Kudrin Sergei (56), who served as an Ultrasonic Testing Inspector for Russian contractor firm 'Trest Rosem' at the Rooppur project. The injured individual was identified as Menchev (53), a co-worker at the same contractor firm.

According to police and local sources, both Russian workers were consuming alcohol together prior to the incident. An argument escalated into a physical altercation, leaving both individuals severely injured and unconscious. Fellow workers rescued them and immediately rushed them to Green City Hospital.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Green City Hospital, Dr. Saiful Islam, stated that both foreign nationals were brought in critical condition while unconscious. Due to the lack of ICU facilities at the clinic, they were urgently transferred to Assort Specialized Hospital in Pabna. However, Kudrin Sergei succumbed to his injuries en route. The other injured worker is currently receiving intensive care in the ICU.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Ashadur Rahman confirmed the incident, stating that preliminary findings suggest the brawl started following heavy alcohol consumption. The deceased's body has been sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Following completion of legal protocols and coordination with the Russian Embassy, the body will be handed over to his relatives. Police investigation is ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances behind the conflict.
