MPO Teachers Demand Nationalization and 10-Point Reform

Raising a 10-point charter of demands centered around the immediate nationalization of all MPO-enlisted schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutes, the 'MPO Education Nationalization Alliance' held a press conference at the National Press Club today, Saturday.

Addressing the media, Principal Delawar Hossain Azizi, Member Secretary of the coalition, stated, "Nationalizing MPO education is not merely a demand of the teaching community; it is a critical demand of parents and general citizens. Once nationalized, parents will be able to educate their children with a nominal monthly fee of BDT 20 to 30."

Referencing past political commitments, Principal Azizi highlighted, "Former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia publicly declared across electronic and print media that MPO education would be nationalized once the government takes office. We expect swift policy steps to fulfill that promise."

The alliance expressed deep concern over reported conspiracies to revert the recruitment of institution heads and assistant heads from Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) back to localized managing committees. Alliance leaders warned that any such move would trigger a massive protest at the Central Shaheed Minar involving over 600,000 teachers and staff members nationwide.

Key 10-Point Charter and Technical Sector Reforms
Engr. Abul Bashar, General Secretary of the organization, presented the written statement, pointing out that technical education—the core engine for economic and industrial growth—remains neglected due to administrative delays and corruption.

The 10-point demand includes:

• Nationalization of all MPO institutions and formulation of an inter-transfer policy.
• Reinstatement of the Trade Instructor position and guaranteed salary payment on the 1st day of every month.
• Eradication of corruption in the Technical Education Directorate and switching scale upgrade applications entirely online.
• Enactment of the 'Teacher-Employee Protection Act' for workplace security.
• Setup of modern laboratories and international-standard training modules for technical educators.
• Creation of the 'Assistant Headmaster (Technical)' post and establishment of an independent 'Ministry of Technical Education'.

The press conference was attended by Engr. Md. Motiur Rahman, President of Bangladesh Technical Teachers-Employees Council; Advisor Mahbubur Rahman; Organizational Secretary Md. Rashed Mosharraf; MPO Teacher Council Member Secretary Ashrafuzzaman Hanif; and Bangladesh Vocational Teachers Association Joint Secretary General Nurul Islam Siam, among others. The leaders threatened nationwide agitation if their proposals are not addressed immediately.
