NID Login Lapse Disrupts Voter Services Temporarily
National Identity (NID) services in Bangladesh have been temporarily disrupted due to login complications with the NID server. Officials are reportedly unable to access the server as they are not receiving the required One-Time Passwords (OTPs), hindering essential operations such as new voter registrations, updates, and corrections.
However, identity verification services and the server itself remain operational, according to sources within the Election Commission (EC).
Speaking to reporters earlier, NID Director General ASM Humayun Kabir confirmed, “Officials are unable to log into the server due to the unavailability of OTPs. As a result, online services are currently facing disruptions. Other activities are continuing as normal.”
The issue is being actively addressed. Muhammad Ashraf Hossain, System Manager (Technical-NID) of the National Identity Registration Wing, assured that the OTP service issue would likely be resolved within a couple of hours from 1:00 PM on Tuesday.
“We have already contacted the OTP service provider,” the Director General added. “We are hopeful that the problem will be resolved shortly.”
Currently, the NID server contains personal data of approximately 125 million citizens and supports services for 186 government and private organizations across the country.
