Advancing Bangladesh Bank’s vision for a cashless economy, Brac Bank has officially introduced 'Bangla QR' payment services across the Merul Badda campus of Brac University. The initiative enables students, faculty, and staff to execute quick, seamless, and secure cashless financial transactions using mobile technology.
Md. Mostakur Rahman FCMA, Governor of Bangladesh Bank, inaugurated the service as the chief guest at an official launch event held at Brac University on Thursday (July 30). Under this cashless initiative, all academic fees, tuition costs, cafeteria bills, and retail store purchases within the campus can be paid digitally. Using 'Bangla QR'—the national interoperable payment platform—customers of any bank or Mobile Financial Service (MFS) provider can instantly complete payments by scanning a single QR code.
Following the ceremony, the Bangladesh Bank Governor interacted with students in an open discussion session, answering queries regarding digital banking infrastructure and central bank initiatives driving financial inclusion.
Tareq Refat Ullah Khan, Managing Director and CEO of Brac Bank, highlighted the impact of technology: "This initiative showcases how digital tech simplifies daily life. We are proud to partner with Brac University in building a pioneer cashless campus."
Professor Dr. Syed Ferhat Anwar, Vice-Chancellor of Brac University, addressed the technical necessities for long-term success: "Bangla QR is a vital step toward an inclusive economy. However, ensuring reliable internet connectivity and smart device accessibility is essential to sustain this digital ecosystem."
The event featured participation from senior officials of Bangladesh Bank, Brac Bank, and Brac University faculty members, with operational support provided by the university's Finance and Accounting Club.
