Commerce Secretary Md. Ataur Rahman Khan has urged officials to make market monitoring operations more coordinated and technology-driven. He made the remarks while presiding over a capacity-building workshop for market monitoring team leaders held at the conference room of the Ministry of Commerce yesterday, Sunday (July 5).

The Commerce Secretary noted that market monitoring activities are jointly conducted by the Ministry of Commerce and its subordinate body, the Directorate of National Consumers' Right Protection (DNCRP). Additionally, departments and agencies under several other ministries also participate in this process. In reality, it is a shared responsibility of all related entities, where rapid field presence, synchronized efforts, and accountability form the core strengths.

Shibir Bichitra Barua, Additional Secretary (IIT) of the Ministry of Commerce, and Sebastien Rema, Acting Director General of the DNCRP, attended the workshop as special guests along with senior officials from the ministry and the directorate.

In his speech, the Commerce Secretary observed that all institutions involved in market supervision work toward a common goal. He highlighted that rather than a lack of capacity, the major challenges lie in ensuring effective coordination, mutual cooperation, and the ability to make swift decisions at the field level.

Emphasizing the importance of stakeholder coordination, sincere cooperation, and leadership skills for team leaders to make monitoring more fruitful, he added, "Motivation is not just a concept; it must be implemented on the ground through practical action plans. Market management can be made more dynamic by exchanging experiences and adopting effective work methodologies."

Addressing the team leaders, the Commerce Secretary stated that leadership must be efficient, timely, and result-oriented. Any lack of coordination at the field level must be resolved quickly to ensure disciplined operations. He concluded by saying that small successful initiatives from each department strengthen the overall market management, making the professionalism and responsibility of every officer highly crucial.
