Fraudsters Fabricate Website for Narayanganj Science and Technology University
In 2023, the then-government approved the establishment of Narayanganj Science and Technology University. However, to date, the university has not appointed a vice-chancellor, nor has it begun any academic or administrative operations.
Despite this, a fraudulent group has created a fake website using the name of the university. The site falsely displays a scrolling message announcing: “Special Migration Notice 2024-2025 of Narayanganj Science and Technology University!”
In a blatant act of deception, the website lists an Indian university vice-chancellor’s photo—reportedly from a university in Kolkata—as the vice-chancellor of the Bangladeshi institution. Although the site mentions an eight-member board of trustees, it provides no names or photos. Moreover, images from Gazipur Agricultural University’s campus have been used as fake visuals for the Narayanganj university campus.
The notice board contains six fake announcements dated between April 7 and April 14, including a New Year celebration notice that, when clicked, reveals clear signs of forgery. In the “Latest News” section, headlines are displayed with accompanying images, but no clickable links are provided.
The website has been found to be spreading false information and illegally soliciting student admissions. The issue recently came under the attention of the University Grants Commission (UGC), whose relevant department reviewed the site run by the fraudulent ring.
Following the review, the UGC’s Public Relations and Publications Department issued a press release on Sunday, May 18, warning students and guardians not to be misled by the fabricated information. The statement cautioned against engaging in any financial transactions or admission-related procedures associated with the fake website.
