Minimum 1 percent charge enforced across banks and MFS wallets
Bangladesh Bank Sets New Merchant Fees For Bangla QR
In a bid to streamline digital financial operations and standardize the cashless ecosystem, Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new fee structure for transactions made via 'Bangla QR'. Merchants will now incur a minimum charge of 1 percent, including VAT, when accepting payments through bank accounts, cards, or mobile banking applications.
The Payment Systems Department of the central bank issued this new directive today (Wednesday, July 1) to bring discipline to digital transactions.
According to the directive, the merchant discount rate for any payment or purchase using Bangla QR under the NPSB network will be a minimum of one percent. This rate will be inclusive of VAT.
The directive further stated that this charge will be applicable to all those who accept QR payments using bank accounts, debit, credit, and prepaid cards, as well as MFS and PSP wallets.
However, to encourage digital transactions, banks or service-providing institutions can run promotional campaigns or offer incentives on their own initiative.
