American chip giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced a massive investment aimed at expanding its production capacity and strengthening its position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) technology market.

On Thursday, the company said it plans to invest more than $10 billion in Taiwan’s AI ecosystem and technology sector. At the same time, AMD will further strengthen strategic partnerships with Taiwanese companies.

Technology analysts are viewing AMD’s large-scale investment as highly significant in its effort to compete with rival chipmaker NVIDIA in the rapidly growing AI chip market.

Focus on Energy-Efficient Chip Technology

In a statement, AMD said that as part of its new mega initiative, it will jointly work with Taiwan’s leading chip packaging and testing companies ASE Technology Holding and Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL).

The primary goal of this collaboration is to develop more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies for next-generation advanced AI systems and processors.

Concerns have recently grown worldwide over the enormous electricity consumption of AI data centers. Industry observers believe AMD’s energy-efficient chip technologies could significantly reduce that burden.

Taiwan is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading semiconductor and chip manufacturing hubs. Analysts believe the American tech giant’s massive investment in the country will further accelerate the global AI technology revolution.
