President Mohammad Shahabuddin has called for transforming the Bangladesh Police into a more humane, people-friendly, and technology-driven force. Highlighting that cyberspace, artificial intelligence (AI), and “deepfake technology” are increasingly being used for criminal activities, he emphasized the need to equip police personnel with modern technological skills to combat these challenges.

He made the call in a message issued on Saturday, 9 May, marking Police Week 2026.

Paying deep tribute to the brave police members who sacrificed their lives in the Great Liberation War and at different times while performing their duties, the President prayed for the eternal peace of their souls. He said that Bangladesh Police is a traditional institution entrusted with maintaining the country’s security and law and order. Its role in ensuring internal security, protecting life and property, and suppressing crime is extremely important.

He noted that the stability of the state, good governance, and development progress largely depend on the honesty, dedication, professionalism, and discipline of the police force.

Thanking members of the Bangladesh Police for carrying out their duties with efficiency and integrity during the recently held 13th National Parliamentary Election, which was conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, President Mohammad Shahabuddin said that in this era of information technology, the nature of crime is becoming increasingly complex and multidimensional.

The President further stated that transparency and accountability must be ensured to uphold the image of the force. At the same time, he stressed strengthening community policing, upholding human rights, and fostering a service-oriented mindset to further solidify the relationship between the police and the people.

He added that the government remains committed to transforming the police force into a more service-oriented and citizen-friendly institution through appropriate development and reforms.

Expressing hope, the President said Bangladesh Police will become a trusted institution through humane, justice-based, and responsible conduct, and will continue its relentless efforts to strengthen the rule of law.
