Three departments of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET)—Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE), Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), and Civil Engineering—have been awarded international-standard accreditation by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education.

The decision was taken at a meeting of BAETE’s sectoral committee. However, it has been learned that within the six-year accreditation period, a re-evaluation will be conducted after three years.

According to sources, this accreditation formally recognizes that the academic standards of the respective departments are aligned with international benchmarks. As a result, students from these departments will gain increased acceptance when applying for higher studies at foreign universities, benefit in scholarship opportunities, and enhance their competitiveness for employment in multinational companies. Furthermore, as curriculum and teaching quality will remain under regular review, overall academic standards are expected to improve.

In addition, if opportunities arise in the future for alignment with international agreements such as the Washington Accord, this recognition will further facilitate global employment prospects and professional recognition for graduates.

University sources said that a total of four departments were considered for accreditation this time. Among them, the Mechanical Engineering department successfully completed all required processes. However, due to a delay in submitting the evaluation report by BAETE’s observer team, the Mechanical Engineering department could not be included in the agenda of this meeting.

It has been learned that the Mechanical Engineering department is expected to come under accreditation at the next meeting, scheduled to be held within the next 2 to 3 months.

Notably, the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) works to ensure the quality of engineering and technical education in the country. Operating under the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh, the body evaluates academic programs of various institutions and grants accreditation upon meeting required standards.
