To expand the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in journalism, the Dhaka Reporters Unity has organized, for the first time, a seven-day training workshop.

The workshop will be held at the Shafiqul Kabir Auditorium of DRU with support from XYZ Cloud Bangladesh and Gameplify.

Titled “AI-Powered Journalism: Opportunities, Risks and Digital Security,” the workshop will be inaugurated on Saturday, May 2, at 2:00 pm by Bangladesh Information Minister Jahir Uddin Swapan.

This information was shared on Friday, May 1, by DRU’s Information Technology and Training Secretary Mahmud Sohel. He said the training will continue until May 8, running daily from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Over the seven days, seven batches will participate, with each member allowed to attend for only one day.

It has been learned that the daylong training sessions will cover topics ranging from the fundamentals of AI in journalism to its practical applications. Participants will learn how to use AI tools for faster and more accurate information gathering, report writing, editing, and crafting engaging headlines. In addition, training will be provided on identifying misinformation, disinformation, and deepfakes, along with techniques for verifying images and videos and using fact-checking tools.

The workshop will also include discussions on the ethics of AI use and risk management, complemented by hands-on practical sessions and live demonstrations to help participants gain real-world skills.

DRU President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel have invited members to attend the inaugural session of this timely workshop. Members interested in participating have also been advised to contact DRU and attend the full-day training on their designated day off.
