E-Filing Enthusiasm Evident as Over 2.1 Million Register for Tax Returns

A total of 2,165,321 taxpayers have registered to submit their income tax returns online for the fiscal year 2024–2025, with over 1.7 million already completing the process, confirmed Al Amin Sheikh, Public Relations Officer of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), on Tuesday, July 1.
According to NBR sources, the automation of the return submission process has been a "transformative step," generating considerable enthusiasm among taxpayers and encouraging voluntary compliance. To ensure uninterrupted service, NBR has enabled year-round online return filing and the instant issuance of income tax certificates—services that will continue moving forward.
Moreover, if taxpayers identify any errors in their filed returns, they are allowed to submit revised returns from the comfort of their homes within 180 days, under Section 180(2) of the Income Tax Act 2023, following the original submission under Section 180(1).
NBR further stated that individual taxpayers can now use the official website to file returns for FY2024–2025 with ease and speed, as well as download and print their submitted return copies, acknowledgment receipts, income tax certificates, and TIN certificates.
Additionally, tax payments and adjustments can be made through internet banking, debit/credit card payments, and mobile banking. Round-the-clock assistance is available via call centers and email, while efforts are underway to make the e-return system even simpler, more robust, and taxpayer-friendly, the NBR noted.
