CCN University of Science and Technology (CCN-UST) held its second convocation on Friday, January 23, at the university’s permanent campus in Kotbari, Cumilla. The ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Shakhawat Hossain, Adviser to the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Shipping, who attended as the President’s nominee and Chancellor of the university.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Shakhawat Hossain said that to keep pace with the modern world, the highest priority must be given to science- and technology-based education. He noted that global progress today is driven by advancements in science and technology, and for a nation to move forward, it requires graduates equipped with appropriate and relevant skills. Sharing his personal experience, he said that when he first visited China, it seemed unlikely that the country could compete globally. However, during a recent visit, he observed that China now appears to be at the forefront of global science and technology.

The adviser said it is natural to aspire for quick success in life, but true success comes through patience, perseverance, and self-confidence. He urged graduates to identify their weaknesses and transform them into sources of strength, adding that sustained effort and a clear sense of purpose are essential to achieving long-term success.

Describing CCN-UST’s progress not merely as the growth of an institution but as a reflection of institutional trust, Dr. Shakhawat Hossain said this trust has been built over time through responsible management and, most importantly, through the success of its graduates. Maintaining this trust, he added, is the greatest challenge for the future—one that now rests on the shoulders of the graduating students.

Referring to his visit to a modern port in China, he said the facility was being operated by just five young IT professionals using artificial intelligence and digitalisation. “Our students must also acquire greater technological skills. If young people nurture innovation, the country can advance much further,” he added.

Chairman of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB), Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, was present as the convocation speaker. Special guests included Dr. Md. Sanwar Jahan Bhuiyan, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, and Dr. Nurunnahar Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping.

Special addresses were delivered by Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), and Professor Dr. Masuda Kamal, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Cumilla University. Welcome speeches were delivered by Md. Tajul Islam, Adviser to the Board of Trustees of CCN-UST, and Dr. Md. Tarikul Islam Chowdhury, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Engineer Dr. Md. Shahjahan, delivered the welcome address. University Registrar Professor Md. Jamal Naser sought approval from the convocation president to formally confer degrees upon 326 undergraduate and 26 postgraduate students, totalling 352 graduates.

Members of the University Grants Commission, the Board of Trustees, faculty members, senior officials from government and non-government organisations, university administrators, and representatives from print and electronic media were also present at the ceremony.

At the convocation, degrees were awarded to 352 graduates from various faculties who completed their undergraduate and postgraduate studies between 2023 and 2025. Mosammat Mahmudah Akter and Tanzida Chowdhury Promi received the Chancellor’s Award for achieving the highest CGPA. Additionally, two students received the BOT Award, three received the Vice-Chancellor’s Award, and seven received the Dean’s Award.

It is noteworthy that the first convocation of CCN University of Science and Technology was held on November 5, 2023, where 546 graduates participated.
