Samsung Electronics has unveiled its first multi-folding smartphone, the Galaxy Z Trifold, in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. The company says that the new device could help strengthen Samsung’s position in shaping the future of foldable smartphones amid rising market competition, reports Reuters.

Priced at 3.59 million won, the Trifold unfolds into a 10-inch display. Featuring three panels, the device is about 25% larger than Samsung’s latest foldable model, the Z Fold Seven.
Alex Lim, the company’s Executive Vice President, said that the foldable phone market will continue to expand and the new Trifold will act as a catalyst for that growth.

The device will go on sale in South Korea on 12 December and will be launched later this year in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the UAE. Samsung also plans to release it in the United States in the first quarter of next year.

It comes equipped with the largest battery in Samsung’s flagship lineup, capable of charging up to 50% in just 30 minutes.

Despite increasing competition from China’s Huawei and expectations of a future foldable from Apple, analysts say that the foldable market will remain limited due to high prices and the complexities of production.
