Every year on 10 November, World Science Day for Peace and Development is observed across the globe, marked by various programs promoting the significance of science in society. In Bangladesh, in observance of this occasion, a two-day “STEM Workshop” was held in Patnitala, Naogaon. The workshop took place at the Upazila Parishad auditorium on 10 and 11 November under the theme “Trust, Transformation and Future: The Science We Need for 2050.”

Around three hundred teachers, students, and guardians from the upazila participated over the two days. On the first day, secondary-level teachers and students took part, while the second day was dedicated to primary-level teachers and students. The workshop provided detailed insights into the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad, Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad, Bangladesh Math and Science Olympiad, World Robot Olympiad, Bangladesh AI Olympiad, and the National Programming Contest. Various interactive sessions were also conducted, covering science, mathematics, robotics, and programming.

Participants, particularly students, engaged in hands-on learning with STEM tools such as drones, robots, and microscopes, creating opportunities for real-time practical understanding. For teachers, the program included special seminars and discussions aimed at making classroom teaching methods more engaging and effective.

The workshop was organized by the Patnitala Upazila Administration, with support from the Society for Popularization of Science, Bangladesh (SPSB), and Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN). Speakers emphasized raising awareness about local and international Olympiads, preparing for participation, and fostering scientific curiosity and problem-solving attitudes among learners. Participants collectively expressed their commitment to promoting the modern STEM education approach (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) at the grassroots level.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Alimuzzaman Milon, who oversaw the overall arrangements, stated that such workshops would help strengthen interest and practice in scientific education at the local level. He added that beginning next year, similar STEM-focused programs are planned to be held regularly in Patnitala and other upazilas across the country.
