Apple is set to modernize its voice assistant Siri by integrating Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) model, according to a Bloomberg report. Under this agreement, Apple will pay Google approximately $1 billion annually, TechCrunch reported.

Initially, a custom version of Gemini will be used to power the redesigned Siri. While Apple continues to rely on its own technologies, it will use Google’s model as a temporary solution until its in-house advanced AI system is fully developed.

The Google model in question features 1.2 trillion parameters—nearly eight times more complex and powerful than Apple’s current cloud-based model, which operates with around 150 billion parameters.

Before finalizing this partnership, Apple tested AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic as well. However, Google’s system demonstrated comparatively better performance, leading Apple to select it over the others.

According to Bloomberg, the new version of Siri may be released next spring, though the plan remains subject to change.
