Popular image-sharing platform Pinterest has unveiled an experimental artificial intelligence-powered application called “Ask Pinterest”, aiming to make shopping discovery more intuitive and personalized.

The company announced the new app on Wednesday, describing it as a conversational AI experience designed to move beyond traditional keyword-based searches.

According to Pinterest, users will be able to interact with the platform through natural language conversations, similar to chatting with a virtual assistant. Instead of relying solely on search terms, users can ask questions and receive personalized shopping suggestions, inspiration, and recommendations based on their preferences and interests.

For example, users planning a dinner party or looking for home decoration ideas can receive tailored suggestions generated from their previous activities, saved content, and pinned images.

Pinterest said the new application has been launched separately from its main platform to allow experimentation with emerging AI technologies without disrupting the existing user experience. Initially, the service will be available to a limited number of users through both mobile devices and web browsers.

Alongside the new consumer-facing app, Pinterest has also introduced several AI-powered tools for marketers and advertisers.

These include a dedicated AI Assistant for advertisers and a new Performance Plus Creative model designed to automatically identify and optimize the most effective advertising content. The company has also launched a new advertising infrastructure called Model Context Protocol, aimed at improving campaign management and performance.

Lee Brown, Chief Business Officer of Pinterest, said the future of information discovery will no longer be driven solely by keywords.

“Future search experiences will be shaped by personal taste, context, and trusted recommendations,” Brown said, expressing confidence that Pinterest is uniquely positioned to benefit from this shift.

The launch reflects a broader industry trend toward AI-powered conversational search and personalized recommendation systems, as technology companies increasingly seek to transform how users discover products, content, and services online.
