Internet Integration Increases in Households

Within two years, the number of households connected to the internet in Bangladesh has risen by 11.2 percent. During April–June this year, internet-connected households increased from 43.6 percent in 2023 to 54.8 percent.

This information was revealed in the latest report of the ICT Application and Use Survey 2024–25, published on Monday, August 25, on the website of the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).

The report also presented a picture of ICT usage among individuals aged five years or older. According to the statistics, 88.2 percent of people in the country use mobile phones, 64.8 percent own a personal phone, 48.6 percent use the internet, and 9 percent use computers.

According to the report, the rate of mobile phone usage in the country has increased from 97.9 percent to 98.8 percent. Smartphone usage has risen from 63.3 percent to 72.8 percent. The number of households using television has increased from 62.2 percent to 65.6 percent.

In addition, the number of households using computers has slightly increased from 8.9 percent to 9.2 percent. Radio usage has also inched up from 14.9 percent to 15.5 percent.

However, while 99.1 percent of households had electricity connections in 2023, the figure has slightly declined to 98.5 percent in 2024–25.
