Mirsharai Mandates Morality: Mobile Use Banned in All Schools
Strict directives, including a complete ban on mobile phone use in schools, have been issued for all educational institutions in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram. The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Somaia Akter, has also prohibited any form of indecent behavior, gestures, or acts, as well as the capturing or circulation of photos and videos within school premises or compounds.
The circular, released by the upazila administration on Sunday (October 5), outlines several new regulations aimed at maintaining discipline and ensuring a safe educational environment.
According to the notice, “No student is allowed to use mobile phones or any electronic device within the premises of an educational institution.” It also instructs that “if any student remains absent for more than five consecutive days without valid reason, the institution’s head must be informed in writing.”
The directive further states that all teachers, students, and staff must refrain completely from drug use. Additionally, each institution must form a committee—headed by the principal—to prevent teenage gangs, eve-teasing, sexual harassment, and child marriage. These committees will coordinate their activities with law enforcement agencies.
UNO Somaia Akter said the measures were introduced “to ensure a disciplined, safe, and drug-free environment in all educational institutions.”
Earlier, on August 29, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Chandpur, Mohammad Mohsin Uddin, had issued 12 similar directives, including restrictions preventing students from bringing mobile phones to secondary schools and teachers from using them inside classrooms.
