Improving a university’s position in global rankings requires an integrated strategy covering education, research, innovation, internationalisation and institutional capacity. These issues were highlighted at a global ranking workshop at Comilla University, where Dr Fahad Hossain, Additional Director of the Ranking and Strategic Development Cell and Member Secretary of the Sustainability Committee at Noakhali Science and Technology University, joined as a resource person.
The workshop, titled “Beyond Reputation: The Strategic Positioning of Comilla University on the Global Ranking Landscape”, was held at 10:30am on Monday (October 5) at the conference room of Comilla University. The university’s Research and Extension Office organised the event.
Dr Fahad Hossain discussed various global ranking frameworks and methodologies, key indicators, and strategies for improving a university’s position in international rankings.
The session also examined the relationship between global ranking indicators and a university’s education, research, internationalisation, institutional capacity and strategic planning.
The Vice Chancellor, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Treasurer, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), deans of different faculties, departmental chairpersons and relevant officials of Comilla University attended the workshop.
The event also featured an engaging exchange of experience and ideas on Comilla University’s future ranking strategy, strengthening its strategic positioning and increasing its visibility internationally.
Asked about his experience, Associate Professor Dr Fahad Hossain said, “Universities primarily advance through the exchange of knowledge, experience and expertise. I participated in this programme with the idea of enriching one another through knowledge and experience sharing and finding ways to advance our respective universities.”
He said, “Ranking is not merely about a position or a number. It is deeply connected with a university’s education, research, innovation, internationalisation and overall institutional development. Our goal should be to strengthen higher education institutions in the country through mutual cooperation and experience sharing.”
Dr Fahad Hossain further said, “Above all, through collective efforts, we need to take Bangladesh’s universities to more respected positions globally and create a pathway for Bangladesh to stand tall on the world stage.”
He also said, “Such programmes create an effective platform for knowledge and experience sharing among higher education institutions across the country, rather than benefiting only one university. I hope similar initiatives in the future will enable universities to use one another’s experiences and build stronger positions in the international arena.”
It may be noted that Dr Fahad Hossain also participated as a resource person in a global ranking workshop organised by Rangamati Science and Technology University last November.
