Igniting Young Minds In Space Exploration
BUBT Hosts National Future Astronauts Meet-Up
- BUBT hosted National Future Astronauts Meet-Up 2026
- Fifty kids engaged in robotics, rocketry, VR
- Fifteen winners awarded across three age categories
Inspiring early curiosity in celestial engineering, astronomical sciences, and deep-space missions, the ‘National Future Astronauts Meet-Up 2026’ brought together emerging young innovators in the capital. Jointly organized by Space Innovation Camp and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT), the day-long science symposium engaged 50 school students aged between 4 and 14 years in experiential space activities.
According to institutional sources, the event was held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the BUBT campus in Rupnagar, Mirpur-2, Dhaka. A core spotlight of the gathering was the Space Storytelling Competition, structured across two distinct rounds. Participants initially delivered a three-minute presentation articulating their space exploration concepts and futuristic visions, followed by an intensive five-minute final round. Divided into three age brackets—6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, and 12 to 14 years—a total of 15 outstanding participants were awarded medals.
Beyond competitive presentations, attendees interacted with practical engineering workshops featuring space robotics, amateur rocketry, interactive astronomy, space art, and immersive Virtual Reality (VR) lunar and orbital simulations designed to translate complex astrophysics into tangible experiences.
Addressing the audience as chief guest, BUBT Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. B. M. Shawkat Ali urged children to venture beyond being passive consumers of technology to become foundational inventors, scientists, and aerospace researchers. He noted that rigorous scientific inquiry, dedication, and technical grit are essential to transforming interstellar ambitions into reality.
Dr. Muhammad Aminur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at BUBT, attended as special guest. Delivering the jury remarks, Al Imtiaz, Associate Professor at the University of Information Technology and Sciences (UITS), commended the participants' creative engineering ideas.
Concluding the summit, Space Innovation Camp President Ariful Hasan Opu stated to the press that the initiative strives to liberate space education from static textbooks, encouraging young minds to build functional robots, study propulsion, and envision interplanetary futures that produce the country's next generation of astronauts. The event was powered by Riseup Labs as the technology and AI partner, alongside Shurjopay as the official payment partner.
