Moving beyond the era of using two networks simultaneously on smartphones, Chinese technology giant Huawei has introduced support for three SIM connections at the same time. The newly unveiled flagship Mate 90 Pro Max features this innovative triple-SIM technology.

The device has two physical SIM card slots and supports storing two eSIM profiles. Technically, users can keep three connections active simultaneously using two physical SIMs and one eSIM.

However, according to Huawei’s official specifications, any two of the three active connections must belong to the same telecommunications operator in China.

Powerful Hardware and Battery Backup

The Mate 90 Pro Max is equipped with powerful hardware to deliver a premium flagship experience alongside its unique network capabilities. The handset features a large 6.9-inch display and is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.

The rear panel houses an advanced triple-camera setup capable of capturing professional-quality photographs.

Because keeping three network connections active simultaneously requires additional power, the device comes with a massive 6,800mAh battery.

Mate 90 Series and Commercial Significance

Recently unveiled in the Chinese market, the Mate 90 series includes the standard Mate 90, Mate 90 Pro and premium Mate 90 RS, alongside the Pro Max model. By breaking the conventional limitations of dual-SIM smartphones and allowing three connections to remain active on a single device, the feature could set a new precedent, particularly for businesspeople, professionals and users who rely on multiple telecom numbers.

Despite various challenges in international markets, Huawei’s latest initiative has received a strong positive response as part of its continued effort to maintain the competitiveness of its flagship smartphones through innovative features.
