Facebook Post Dispute Ends in Farmer’s Death in Rajbari

A 60-year-old farmer was allegedly beaten to death following a dispute over a Facebook post in Kalukhali upazila of Rajbari.
Nazrul Islam Khan was attacked in front of his home in Boalia village at around 10am on Friday, September 25.
According to his eldest daughter Tahmina Akter, a dispute had developed between their family and that of neighbour Iman Sardar over a Facebook post published by her younger sister.
Tahmina alleged that Iman Sardar, his wife Bulu, son Tuhin and daughter Golapi Begum attacked their family together on Friday morning.
She said the attackers struck Nazrul with bricks and sticks, leaving him critically injured and dying at the scene. His wife Johura Begum and daughter Runa were also seriously injured when they tried to intervene, she alleged.
Following the incident, Assistant Superintendent of Police of the Pangsha Circle Md Rakibur Rahman and senior police officials visited the scene.
Police seized a stick allegedly used in the attack.
ASP Md Rakibur Rahman said the killing followed a dispute over what he described as a trivial incident. A woman, Golapi Begum, has been detained in connection with the incident, he said.
He added that Nazrul’s body was recovered and sent to the morgue of Rajbari Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Police are continuing operations to arrest the other suspects involved in the incident.
