Emphasizing the imperative of leveraging Chinese developmental paradigms across technical and vocational education and training (TVET), artificial intelligence (AI), industry-academia linkages, and the blue economy, Minister for Education and Primary and Mass Education Dr. A. N. M. Ehsanul Hoque Milan called for strategic knowledge transfers to transform Bangladesh's demographic potential. He made the remarks as chief guest at the 'Dhaka China Day 2026' celebration hosted at East West University (EWU) in the capital on Thursday, 24 September 2026.
Dr. Milan stated that Bangladesh and China share an enduring historic friendship rooted in mutual trust and collaboration. "To harness our demographic dividend effectively, we must rapidly equip youth cohorts with globally competitive technical competencies. Adapting China's advanced technical frameworks and vocational delivery mechanisms will significantly accelerate this human resource pipeline," he noted.
Addressing institutional models, the Minister disclosed that Dhaka Polytechnic Institute is actively being restructured based on Chinese industry-academia linkages to bridge the laboratory-to-industry gap, with similar modernization plans underway for Chandpur Polytechnic Institute. He highlighted priority focus areas, including electric vehicles (EVs), distributed solar installations, robotics, and marine economics, where Chinese technical capabilities offer scalable industrial blueprints for Bangladesh.
Outlining long-term policy reforms to position Bangladesh as an international 'Education Hub', Dr. Milon confirmed government initiatives to introduce structured cross-border higher education frameworks in collaboration with prestigious international institutions.
In his remarks, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen underscored that youth engagement remains the driving pillar for bilateral diplomatic continuity, reiterating Beijing's sustained commitment to expanding capacity building, academic exchanges, and technology partnerships in Bangladesh.
The session featured remarks by Professor Dr. Mohammed Farashuddin, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of East West University and former Governor of Bangladesh Bank, while EWU Vice-Chancellor Professor Shams Rahman delivered the welcome address before a delegation of diplomats, faculty members, and students.
