A new technology-focused administrative initiative has been taken ahead of the upcoming election of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), with a support committee formed to strengthen new membership inclusion and the verification and updating of existing member information.
The committee was nominated through the temporary administrator in line with the directives of Trade Organization-2. Its primary responsibilities will be to include new members and verify and update information of existing members.
The committee, formed to assist BASIS Administrator Khandkar Nazmin in election-related activities, includes Engineer Mohammad Juel, Abdullah Ibne Nurul Islam, Md. Ahsan Habib, Ferdous Alam, Md. Fuad Hasan, Md. Rashed Ul Haque Sarker and Mohammad Tafid Hasan Chowdhury as members.
The directive states that if any member of the committee wishes to contest the upcoming BASIS election, the member must resign from the committee on the day the election schedule is announced.
According to relevant sources, the committee’s scope of work will remain limited to membership inclusion and the verification and updating of member information.
The sources further allege that during the previous “fascist period,” companies that were at the forefront of what they describe as BASIS capture, plunder and corruption through Awami League influence under the ICT Ministry attempted, after August 5, to keep general BASIS members away from the election while presenting themselves as advocates of civility.
The sources also allege that companies forcibly closed during that period were not given opportunities to become voters. They further claim that, citing various constitutional complications, registered but non-existent companies affiliated with the Awami League were kept at the top of the voter list.
It may be noted that a directive signed by Digital Development Division Additional Secretary Khandkar Nazmin on September 22, 2026, Tuesday, stated that the key objective of the initiative is to establish a transparent and updated membership base.
