Biman Signs Supplementary Deal to Procure 11 Boeing Aircraft

In alignment with advanced aviation technology, modern fleet standardization protocols, and strategic route expansion frameworks, Bangladesh's national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines has signed a supplementary agreement to acquire 11 additional aircraft from US aerospace titan Boeing. Biman Bangladesh Airlines confirmed the development through a press release issued today, Thursday (24 September).

According to the press release, the signing ceremony took place in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session. Biman Board of Directors Chairman Rumi A Hossain and Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing Brad McMullen signed the contract on behalf of their respective organizations.

The ceremony was attended by Bangladesh Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, Invest Bangladesh Authority Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Advisor to the Prime Minister Mahdi Amin, US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

Also present were US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade William Kimmitt, Boeing Global Senior Vice President Brendan Nelson, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapoor, Boeing Commercial Airplanes Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing for Eurasia, India, and South Asia Paul Righi, along with other high-ranking officials from both organizations.

Speaking at the ceremony, Biman Board of Directors Chairman Rumi A Hossain stated, "Today's supplementary agreement is a major milestone in Biman's ongoing fleet modernization and network expansion initiatives. This order aligns directly with our precise fleet requirement evaluations. Our long-standing, collaborative relationship with Boeing reassures us regarding seamless delivery and post-procurement technical support."

He added, "As the national flag carrier, we remain steadfast in enhancing Biman's operational infrastructure and capacity to cater to the growing travel demands of citizens in Bangladesh, non-resident Bangladeshis, business travelers, and tourists. This deal forms part of a structured, long-term blueprint aimed at strengthening the country’s international aviation footprint in the coming years."

This new agreement will fortify Biman Bangladesh Airlines' long-term fleet modernization program, enhancing operational agility, flexibility, and cost efficiency while maintaining seamless continuity with its existing Boeing fleet.

As the national carrier, Biman Bangladesh Airlines remains dedicated to cultivating a modern, efficient, and commercially viable fleet to support Bangladesh's evolving international air connectivity requirements and long-term aviation goals.
