Bangladesh has sought broader technical collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to advance nuclear research capabilities, fellowships, and human resource development for young scientists and professionals.

​Friday, September 18, 2026: Md. Anwar Hossain, Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, placed the call during a bilateral meeting held in Vienna with Hua Liu, Deputy Director General and Head of the Department of Technical Cooperation at the IAEA.

​Discussions focused on expanding international skill development programs, professional training, internships, and research fellowships for Bangladeshi nuclear scientists, engineers, and government officials. The Science Secretary particularly sought IAEA assistance in securing organizational internships, high-level technical training, and institutional recruitment opportunities for qualified Bangladeshi personnel within the agency.

​He stated that strengthening technical cooperation with the IAEA remains a priority for Bangladesh to create global opportunities and build competencies for emerging researchers in science and engineering. Both sides underscored the importance of fostering joint research, encouraging technological innovation, and scaling institutional capacity to ensure the safe and peaceful utilization of nuclear technology nationwide.

​The bilateral session was attended by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh in Vienna Toufiq Hasan, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Dr. M. Moynul Islam, Joint Secretary Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, and Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Construction Project Director Dr. Md. Kabir Hossain.
