Bangladesh Online Media Association Holds Biennial General Meeting
Pledges to Fight Fake News, Expand Nationwide District Chapters, and Finalizes 11-Member Board

DHAKA, August 9, Sunday: The Bangladesh Online Media Association (BOMA), a pioneer organization representing the country's digital journalism sector, successfully held its 6th Biennial General Meeting on Saturday, August 8 at 4:00 PM. The event took place at the association’s headquarters located at Treasure Island, Siddheswari Circular Road, Shantinagar, Dhaka.
Chaired by BOMA’s Acting President, senior journalist A.K.M. Shariful Islam Khan, the session was moderated by General Secretary Shahadat Swapan. Professor Dr. Sukomal Barua, member of the BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council, addressed the gathering virtually as the Chief Guest.
During the meeting, President Shariful Islam Khan expressed optimism regarding the evolution of online journalism in Bangladesh. Highlighting future initiatives, BOMA representative Nasir Uddin Bulbul announced plans to conduct capacity-building workshops focused on fake news verification, alongside establishing divisional and district-level committees before the organization’s upcoming 15th anniversary.
Executive President Mir Abdul Alim and Founding Member Dr. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury emphasized the necessity of formal registration for online portals and structured multi-dimensional training to tackle digital-era challenges. To protect the rights of grassroot journalists and fight misinformation, the assembly unanimously finalized an 11-member Executive Committee.
Key organizational reports, audit findings, and future budgetary goals presented by General Secretary Shahadat Swapan were formally ratified by the general body. Prominent members including Kamal Hossain, Abu Sufian Ratan, Rashedul Hasan Bulbul, Delwar Hossain, Saleh Rashid Alok, and Jahangir Alam Tushar participated in the discussions. The meeting concluded with an evening dinner and official group photo session.
