College Student Arrested Over Alleged Sharing of Indian Woman's Private Photos Online

Detectives of the Jamalpur District Police have arrested a college student accused of sharing the private photos and videos of a young woman from India's West Bengal on social media. He was arrested on Tuesday night in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act and was sent to jail by a court on Wednesday.

The accused, Mostafizur Rahman Mehedi, 19, is a 12th-grade student at AKM Memorial College in Dewanganj upazila of Jamalpur.

According to police, Mehedi became acquainted with the woman from Murshidabad district of West Bengal through social media. The two later developed a romantic relationship and exchanged personal photos and videos with mutual consent.

Police said Mehedi is accused of later sharing the woman's private images and videos on social media and sending them to her relatives.

The victim filed a written complaint with Suti Police Station in Murshidabad, West Bengal. The complaint was subsequently forwarded to the Superintendent of Police in Jamalpur for necessary action.

Following an investigation, detectives conducted a raid in Kalikapur area of Dewanganj on Tuesday night and arrested the accused. His mobile phone was seized during the operation.

Police said preliminary forensic analysis of the seized device found evidence supporting the victim's allegations.

Sohag Rana, Officer-in-Charge (DB-1) of the district Detective Branch, said a case has been filed under the Cyber Security Act and the accused was produced before a court, which ordered his detention in jail.
