Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for several key education and public health development projects in Tangail's Madhupur upazila on Saturday (July 4), the second day of his two-day visit to his constituency.

The minister began the day's programme by visiting the grave of former Jubo Dal leader the late Sohel Talukder and meeting his family members, assuring them of his continued support.

He later laid the foundation stone of a 100,000-litre water reservoir beside Kakraid High School under a project implemented by the Department of Public Health Engineering. Officials said the project will provide uninterrupted arsenic-free drinking water to more than 300 local residents.

During the ceremony, students of Kakraid High School approached the minister to share their concerns. Responding to their request, he made an unscheduled visit to the school, where he interacted with students, assured them that their problems would be addressed on a priority basis and encouraged them to pursue their studies with dedication and patriotism.

The minister subsequently inaugurated newly constructed four-storey academic buildings at Jatabari Fazil (Degree) Madrasa, the century-old Gangair Nazmul Islam Fazil Madrasa, Madhupur Adarsha Islamia Kamil Madrasa and Shalikha Fazil Madrasa.

During the events, local representatives requested government recognition for Gangair Nazmul Islam Fazil Madrasa and sought the establishment of a computer laboratory and a separate prayer space for female students at Shalikha Fazil Madrasa.

Responding to the demands, the minister said he had witnessed poor conditions of roads and educational institutions throughout his two-day visit.

"Everywhere I have gone, people have handed me long lists of demands. The question is, what did the previous government do over the past 17 years?" he said.

He added that although all demands could not be met immediately, they would be implemented gradually with public cooperation.

Declaring a zero-tolerance policy against extortion, corruption, irregularities and gambling, the minister called on local administration and party leaders to take effective action.

"We will not allow the development plans of the honourable Prime Minister to be undermined because of a handful of wrongdoers," he said.

Outside his scheduled programme, Anam attended the funeral prayer of labour leader and multiple-term ward commissioner Mizanur Rahman Mizan in Dhanbari upazila. Later, he held meetings with local BNP leaders and representatives of the Sri Sri Nityananda Seba and Orphanage Ashram, directing officials to address their concerns promptly.

The minister said the government remains committed to improving education standards, expanding modern educational infrastructure and ensuring essential public services.

He also stressed that transparent, cheating-free public examinations are being conducted to ensure that deserving students receive fair evaluation.

Highlighting the government's development priorities, he said ensuring safe drinking water alongside quality education remains a key focus, adding that ongoing investments in education, healthcare, communications and public infrastructure will significantly improve the quality of life in Madhupur.

The programmes were attended by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Jubayer Hossain, Madhupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Zafar Iqbal, Tangail BNP President Hasanuzzaman Shaheen, government officials, local public representatives, teachers, students and distinguished citizens.
