The University Grants Commission (UGC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) to develop the technical design and planning for a 14-storey residential building aimed at addressing the long-standing housing shortage for its employees.

The proposed building, to be constructed at the UGC residential complex in Mirpur-14, will feature 52 apartments. The project includes 800-square-foot units for third-class employees and 600-square-foot units for fourth-class employees, along with basement parking and modern residential facilities.

Under the agreement, DUET will prepare the concept paper, Detailed Project Proposal (DPP), architectural design, and structural design within six months. Construction is targeted to be completed within the next two years after the project's approval and contractor selection through an open tender process.

UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed said ensuring housing facilities for employees remains one of the commission's priorities and stressed timely implementation of the project.

DUET Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Iqbal said the university's engineers and architects would ensure high-quality technical support and complete the preparatory work within the stipulated timeframe.

Officials said the project is planned under a government-to-government (G2G) model and will incorporate green building technologies, energy-efficient design, and modern architectural standards.
