The fully free and open-source artificial intelligence (AI) agent OpenClaw, which generated widespread buzz across the internet earlier this year, has finally debuted as a mobile application. The app is now available for both Android and iOS (iPhone) platforms.

The announcement was made on Tuesday by the OneCl Foundation through a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

On both platforms, users can connect their smartphones to the OpenClaw Gateway, which functions as a routing layer and coordinator between user instructions and AI agents. The gateway enables OpenCl agents to access the tools and capabilities required to complete a wide range of tasks efficiently.

In practical terms, users can now manage their own OpenCl agents directly from their smartphones. If the agents are configured with appropriate programming and instructions, they can significantly assist with a variety of complex day-to-day tasks.

OpenCl users worldwide have already been employing the agents for activities ranging from software coding to weekly meal planning. However, many early users have also reported that the initial version did not consistently deliver the expected results in some cases.

Earlier this year, OpenCl went viral almost overnight following a social media campaign centered on Moltbook, a platform claimed to be operated entirely by AI agents. Researchers later revealed that the campaign had not been run exclusively by AI, as some human operators had been working behind the scenes while posing as AI agents.

Although the campaign proved to be an effective promotional strategy for OpenCl, it also sparked debate over the project's credibility. Nevertheless, the technology is widely regarded as pointing toward the future of autonomous, agent-based AI.

OpenCl's original founder, Peter Steinberger, joined OpenAI in February this year. The project is now managed by a non-profit foundation. While OpenCl previously required users to operate it through complex command-line interfaces on computers, the launch of the smartphone app makes this AI agent technology significantly more accessible to the general public.
