A government purchase order circulating on social media and various online platforms regarding the import of 150,000 tonnes of non-basmati parboiled rice from India under the Directorate General of Food has been declared completely fake, fabricated, and misleading by the Ministry of Food.
The ministry shared this information in a press release issued on Tuesday, June 23. The notification stated that a so-called government purchase order with memorandum number 'DGFOOD/IMP/RICE-IND/2026/1402', allegedly issued on June 16, has recently been promoted on digital platforms, mentioning the import of 1.5 lakh tonnes of rice from India.
The Ministry of Food stated that no such purchase order has been issued by the ministry or the Directorate General of Food. The memorandum number, information, language, and presentation used in the circulated document do not align with official government records.
The press release added that such fake orders are creating confusion among the public and generating wrong perceptions about government activities. Therefore, everyone has been urged not to be misled by such rumors. For any policy decisions or procurement activities, people are advised to follow the official websites of the respective institutions. The ministry also mentioned that legal action is being considered against those involved in spreading fake news.
