OpenAI has introduced a completely new feature aimed at making users’ financial management easier and more precise. Last Friday, the leading Artificial Intelligence company launched a trial version of a personal finance tool for ChatGPT Pro users.

Under the new feature, users will be able to connect their bank accounts and other financial accounts directly with ChatGPT. This will allow customers to ask the chatbot questions on a wide range of topics, from analyzing daily expenses to planning future finances. The move comes shortly after OpenAI acquired the engineering team of personal finance startup Hero last month.

To ensure the service remains secure and effective, OpenAI has partnered with Plaid, a widely used financial connectivity platform. Through this integration, users in the United States will be able to connect accounts from nearly 12,000 financial institutions, including Chase, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Robinhood, and American Express, to ChatGPT.

After linking accounts, users will see a dedicated dashboard in the ChatGPT sidebar displaying a complete overview of their investments, monthly spending, subscriptions, and upcoming bills. OpenAI also said support from Intuit for handling complex tax calculations will be added soon.

According to OpenAI, around 200 million people worldwide ask ChatGPT financial questions every month. To improve the accuracy of the new feature, the company has integrated its latest GPT-5.5 model, which is significantly more capable of analyzing complex mathematical and financial scenarios than previous versions.

Users will now be able to ask highly personalized and complex questions such as, “Have my recent expenses increased?” or “What kind of financial plan should I follow if I want to buy a house within the next five years?” and receive tailored recommendations.

Considering privacy and security concerns surrounding financial information, OpenAI said users will retain full control over their data. Customers can disconnect their bank accounts or other financial integrations at any time through the settings menu. Once disconnected, all financial data and history will be automatically deleted from ChatGPT’s database within 30 days.

Technology analysts believe the launch reflects the growing competition among AI companies to develop specialized tools for sensitive sectors such as healthcare and finance, moving beyond the traditional role of general-purpose chatbots.
