During a routine medical check-up in the United Kingdom, a significant blockage was detected in the heart of President Md. Sahabuddin, prompting an emergency angioplasty and stent (ring) placement, which was successfully completed.

This information was confirmed by the President’s personal physician, Colonel Dr. A K M Faizul Haque, to the Press Wing of Bangabhaban.

According to the President’s Press Secretary (Secretary) Md. Sarwar Alam, the President’s current physical condition is stable and satisfactory.

Dr. A K M Faizul Haque stated that earlier today, an angiogram of the President was conducted under the supervision of interventional cardiologist Dr. Stephen Holy at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, United Kingdom.

During the examination, a notable blockage in the heart was identified, leading to an immediate angioplasty procedure and the placement of a stent (ring).

At present, the President remains under close observation and supervision of hospital physicians.

The President has requested prayers from the people of the country for his swift recovery.

It is worth mentioning that in October 2023, the President underwent open-heart surgery at the National University Hospital in Singapore.

Subsequently, as part of ongoing treatment for cardiac complications, he has been receiving follow-up care at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge. The hospital is globally renowned for its advanced cardiac treatment and research and is recognized as one of the institutions that performed the world’s first successful heart transplant.

The President departed Dhaka for London on 9 May for follow-up treatment and medical examinations. He is expected to return to the country on 18 May after completing his treatment.
