AI Olympiad Advances: Chattogram Regional Round Crowns Coding, Quiz Champions
The regional round of the “3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2026” was held in a festive atmosphere in Chattogram. The competition took place on 9 May, Friday at the Chittagong Independent University campus, where students from various educational institutions in Chattogram and surrounding districts participated. In the day-long event, participants competed in programming, mathematical logic, and artificial intelligence-based challenges. At the closing and prize-giving ceremony, 10 students were declared winners in the AI Quiz category and 6 students in the AI Coding Challenge category.
In the Coding Challenge category, the winners are—Aqid Iqbal Haque, Arian Abrar Chowdhury and Tanushree Saha of Chattogram Cantonment Public College; Tasdeed Ahmed Chowdhury of Bangladesh Elementary School; Sayan Ahmed Khan of Presidency International School; and Md. Imtiaz Hossain of Government Haji Asmat College.
In the AI Quiz category, the winners are—Supratik Nath, Mostanir Chowdhury Rakin, Saad Ibne Hossain, Ibrahim Bin Hossain, Syed Mohammad Rafan and Afnan Enam Ayan of Cantonment English School and College; Zuhair Ferdous Hasan of CMP School and College; Tawasin Mostafa of Bangladesh Elementary School; and Taisir Islam Adian of Chittagong Grammar School.
Organized by the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN), the event began at 8:00 am with registration. Students then competed in two segments—‘AI Quiz’ and ‘AI Coding Challenge’. The coding challenge, which started at 8:45 am, continued until 11:00 am.
The competition activities were observed by Professor Dr. Asif Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at CIU. In addition, special workshops on AI and machine learning were conducted by university students Abdullah Al Naim and Samah Binte Firoz.
At the closing ceremony, CIU Registrar Anjuman Banu Lima attended as the chief guest. Special guests included Professor Dr. Asif Iqbal and Dr. Rubel Sen Gupta, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The guests handed over medals and certificates to the winners.
Speakers at the event said that there is no alternative to enhancing students’ skills in artificial intelligence to build a technology-driven future.
The organizers also said that an online ‘e-Olympiad’ for students from Rajshahi and Khulna regions was held on the same day. The results will be published soon on the Olympiad’s official website. Winners of the regional rounds will have the opportunity to participate in the National AI Olympiad to be held in Dhaka on 16 May.
