DAP Fertilizer Company Limited (DAPFCL) has resumed production after overcoming an ammonia shortage.

Production restarted at the plant located in Anwara, Chattogram on 9 May, Saturday afternoon, one day after Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company (KAFCO) became operational again. Officials believe this development will bring relief to the country’s fertilizer production and supply situation.

Managing Director of DAPFCL, Mohammad Moinul Haque, said that ammonia supply to DAPFCL normalized after production resumed at KAFCO on 2 May. Following several days of necessary ammonia stockpiling and technical preparations, production activities at DAPFCL resumed on Saturday.

He said that if the plant remains operational, it will be possible to produce 600 to 700 tonnes of urea per day.

Earlier, production at DAPFCL had been halted on 18 April due to the ammonia shortage.

DAPFCL, controlled by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries, completed its construction in 2006 and began commercial production of DAP fertilizer.
