The regional round of the 3rd Bangladesh AI Olympiad 2026 was held in Rangpur to promote artificial intelligence-based education and innovative thinking among students. The competition took place on Friday, May 8, at Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur, where more than 150 students from Rangpur division and six surrounding districts participated.

In the day-long event, students took part in AI quizzes and AI coding challenges, demonstrating their creativity and technical skills by solving programming, mathematical logic, and AI-based problems.

The program began at 8:00 am with registration. The AI coding competition ran from 8:45 am to 11:10 am, while the AI quiz competition was held from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. Following the quiz, an AI workshop was conducted for participants by Bangladesh AI Olympiad Academic Coordinator Tasnim Mahfuz Nafis and Saikat Islam.

At the closing and prize-giving ceremony, 12 winners were announced in the AI quiz and 8 winners in the AI coding challenge. The winners were awarded medals and certificates. Organizers stated that several additional students will be selected for the National AI Olympiad scheduled to be held on May 16. The names of the selected participants will be published later on the official website.

Brigadier General Mohammad Masudur Rahman attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest. He said, “Such technology-driven events play a significant role in fostering students’ innovative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and future-oriented leadership.”

Special guests included Lieutenant Colonel Syed Shafiul Islam Meraj, Principal of Cantonment Public School and College, Saidpur, and Professor Dr. Jahangir Alam of the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Bangladesh Army University of Science and Technology.

Lieutenant Colonel Syed Shafiul Islam Meraj said, “There is no alternative to acquiring knowledge of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies. Such initiatives will help students advance on the global technology stage.”

The organizer, Bangladesh Open Source Network, stated that the enthusiastic participation of students from Rangpur division demonstrates that with proper opportunities and training, they are capable of achieving international-standard skills.
