ByteDance has announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence–powered voice assistant, which will first appear on a smartphone manufactured by ZTE Corporation, with plans to expand the feature to devices from other makers in the future, according to Reuters.

The voice assistant—powered by Doubao, ByteDance’s popular large language model—will allow users to perform various tasks through voice commands, such as searching for content or booking tickets. Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi have already introduced similar features, while Apple’s own AI tools have yet to be officially released in the Chinese market.

The AI tool is being introduced first on ZTE’s Nubia M153 model, with the prototype priced at 3,499 yuan. Limited pre-orders for the device have begun. Following the news, ZTE’s shares rose by ten percent on Monday.

ByteDance stated that it does not aim to build its own smartphones; instead, it seeks to collaborate with different manufacturers to expand the distribution of its AI voice services. The Doubao chatbot is already one of China’s leading consumer-focused AI apps, with around 156.9 million monthly active users.
