The recent earthquakes made not only high-rise buildings tremble — they shook the hearts of citizens as well. Earthquake anxiety is now widespread across the country. In this situation, a mobile app named ‘Earth Quake Alert’ has been developed in Bangladesh to provide warnings a few seconds before a quake strikes.

On Thursday, 26 November, Google released the Android version of the app. Published on Google Play, the app has been developed by Smart Software Limited. Along with real-time alerts, the app provides detailed information on the location and depth of the quake’s origin, as well as interactive seismic maps. It also includes a global earthquake data bank showing when and where quakes are occurring worldwide.

The app’s listing on the Play Store promises that it does not collect any user information nor share any data with third parties.

Regarding the app, Smart Software Limited’s Managing Director, Md. Shahidul Islam Shaheen, stated that the app was created using satellite image processing. Although only the Android version has been released so far, an iOS version is coming soon and is currently under review. Further development of the app is ongoing.
