KUET Marks 22nd with Pageantry and Purpose

Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) marked its 22nd anniversary on Monday, 1 September, with a daylong programme featuring a fellowship gathering, national flag hoisting, formal inauguration of University Day, a festive procession, a presentation on “KUET’s Achievements: Past, Present and Future” in the auditorium, a discussion session, tree planting, release of fish fingerlings, and the opening of various departmental laboratories to visitors. The campus remained vibrant throughout the day as faculty members and students joined the celebrations.
In the afternoon, a friendly football match was held between teachers–officials and students. After Maghrib prayers, a doa mahfil took place at the central Jame Mosque. The day concluded with a cultural programme in the university auditorium.
Inaugurating the University Day at the administrative building courtyard, KUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Maksud Helali said, “KUET’s honour, growth, and heritage must be upheld. KUET is one of Bangladesh’s finest seats of learning, and for that we owe an immense debt to our teachers, officers, staff, and students. Honouring these contributions, we will move forward and remain devoted to serving the nation and its people.”
He added, “Since becoming a university, KUET has been emerging as a global role model in knowledge, higher education, and research. KUET is a renowned institution in Bangladesh. We can proudly say many of our alumni are demonstrating excellence in diverse fields. We want to stand tall not only before Bangladesh but before the world.”
Additional Chief Engineer (Retd.) of LGED and valiant freedom fighter Engineer Syed Mahbubur Rahman delivered remarks at the event. The welcome address was given by Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Chair of the University Day Celebration Committee. Deans of various faculties, the director of the institute, the registrar, department heads, directors, hall provosts, office and section heads, officials, staff, and students were in attendance.
Background
Established as Khulna Engineering College in 1967, the institution became the Bangladesh Institute of Technology (BIT) in 1986 and was reconstituted as Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) on 1 September 2003. This year marks KUET’s 22nd year as a university.
