DUET Day: Dedication, Development, and Dreams
Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) celebrated its 22nd founding anniversary with colorful festivities including the hoisting of the national flag, a rally, cake cutting, the release of balloons and doves, and a commemorative discussion. This year’s celebration was held under the theme “DUET in Technological Excellence.”
Alongside a tree-planting program, a special ceremony was organized at the Shaheed Shakil Parvez Auditorium where meritorious students received the Dean’s Award, faculty members were honored with the Academic Excellence Award for publications in Q1 indexed journals, and winners of the design competition were awarded. DUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Zainal Abedin attended as the chief guest.
In his address, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Abedin remarked, “The 22-year journey of DUET is a history of fulfilling dreams. Today DUET stands as one of the leading universities of engineering and technology in the country. Let DUET be the forerunner in education, technology, and creativity. Improvement in education quality, research, innovation, and strong industry linkages have brought us to this position. I pay deep respect and gratitude to those whose hard work and sacrifices have shaped DUET, especially those who played a role in the movement for its naming.”
Extending greetings on DUET Day 2025, he added, “We are passing through a time when technology is changing rapidly. Addressing the challenges of artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing, renewable energy, and cybersecurity, while preparing for the Fifth Industrial Revolution by creating skilled human resources, is now the demand of the time. DUET is determined to fulfill this responsibility. The anniversary reminds us that our goal is not merely to confer degrees but to accelerate the country’s engineering and technology-based development. I believe DUET will one day rank among the world’s top engineering universities.”
He urged DUET’s faculty to prioritize international-standard research and innovation and called for collective efforts in nurturing students as global leaders.
Special guest Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Arefin Kawsar said, “Today our students are proving their merit both at home and abroad, contributing to new knowledge creation, advanced technology practices, and creative endeavors.
