Former Twitter (now X) CEO Parag Agrawal, after being ousted by Elon Musk in 2022, has embarked on a new venture. In 2023, he founded Parallel Web Systems Incorporated, a cloud-based platform designed to support large-scale online research using artificial intelligence (AI). The company currently operates from Palo Alto with a 25-member team.

The startup has already raised nearly $30 million from top investors including Khosla Ventures, First Round Capital, and Index Ventures. According to Agrawal, “Every day, millions of research activities rely on our services, and numerous startups and public enterprises depend on this platform.”

Recently, the company announced the launch of its Deep Research API, enabling humans and leading AI models—such as GPT-5—to be tested against complex benchmarks. Parallel’s objective is to build a “programmatic web”, where AI can directly gather, process, and analyze information. This approach aims to make web-based AI research and insights significantly more efficient.
