Pathao Protects Passengers: Connects Offline Rides with Safety
Facing challenges such as low phone battery, exhausted data, or basic feature phones, over 60 percent of bike rides in Bangladesh are currently conducted outside ride-hailing apps, putting passengers’ safety at risk. To address this, Pathao, the country’s first ride-sharing app, has introduced a new feature called Pathao Connect.
Pathao explained, “In offline rides, users have to rely on riders without any verification. In such situations, the safety of both users and riders is compromised. Pathao Connect provides a smart, simple, and secure solution, making offline rides as safe as online ones.”
The feature allows offline rides to be safely connected to Pathao’s system without requiring a smartphone or data. Either the user or the rider can simply enter a code or phone number along with an OTP in the app to connect the ride. Once connected, the ride becomes trackable, rider information is securely stored, and all of Pathao’s safety features—such as live location sharing, driver details, and even free trip safety coverage—are activated.
Founded in 2015, Pathao has developed a digital platform that not only creates employment opportunities for many but also integrates into daily life. The company leads in ride-sharing, food delivery, and e-commerce logistics. Pathao currently operates with over 10 million users, 300,000 drivers and delivery agents, 200,000 merchants, and 10,000 restaurants. The platform has created over 500,000 jobs in Bangladesh, making a significant contribution to the country’s digital economy.
