San Francisco – Popular chat app Discord has initiated preliminary discussions regarding a potential initial public offering (IPO), according to a report by The New York Times. The discussions with investment bankers remain at an exploratory stage, and no final decision has been made, TechCrunch reported.

In response to the speculation, a Discord spokesperson stated, “We understand there is a lot of interest in our future plans, but we do not comment on rumors or speculation.”

This is not the first time Discord has considered an IPO. In 2021, the company rejected a $10 billion acquisition offer from Microsoft, opting to remain independently operated.

During a fundraising round in 2021, Discord was valued at $14.7 billion after securing $500 million in investments.

While the platform has long been popular among gaming and cryptocurrency communities, it has recently emerged as a key player in the artificial intelligence sector. Notably, image-generation companies like Midjourney operate primarily through Discord servers.
