Students Form Human Chain & Send Open Letter to PM
Shutdown Enters 3rd Day at CUET Demanding Reinstatement of VC Sayem

Demanding the reinstatement of recently ousted Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Sadat Muhammad Sayem, students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) observed a complete campus shutdown for the third consecutive day. Today, Thursday (24 September), at 12:00 PM, protesting students organized a mass human chain at the university's Central Shaheed Minar premises.
During the demonstration, students urged the government to immediately revoke the notifications regarding the appointment of the new Vice-Chancellor and the removal of Dr. Sayem. Students from various departments boycotted all classes and examinations to join the protest. Demonstrators held placards with slogans such as "Who is our VC? Sayem Sir, None Else", "Let the Campus Rise, Bring Back Sayem Sir", and "One Single Demand: Sayem Sir as VC". Furthermore, protesting students read out an open letter addressed to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Debajit Das Gupta, a fourth-year student from the Civil Engineering Department, stated during the rally, "Sayem Sir is a multi-talented academic. He was an immensely respected teacher and Vice-Chancellor among the students. Our movement will continue until he is reinstated. Our sole demand is to have Sayem Sir back as our Vice-Chancellor."
In addition, a campus-wide mass signature campaign that commenced on Wednesday continued today. As part of their announced protest schedule, students are also set to hold a torchlight procession across the campus at 6:30 PM this evening.
